Before you book

COMMON QUESTIONS.

Do you grill at my house?

Yes, with live-grill catering. We bring the binchotan grill and charcoal, grill on your patio or driveway, and set up, break down, and clean up. With drop-off, we grill in our kitchen and deliver everything ready to eat.

What are specials?

Skewers whose ingredients we buy at market price: kawa (chicken skin), wild salmon, A5 wagyu, and bacon-wrapped mochi. Tell us which ones you'd like and we'll price them in your quote. Everything else on the menu is a standard skewer, included in the skewer price.

Can I choose the skewers?

Yes. Pick any mix of the standards, like negima, momo, pork belly, tofu, and the vegetables, and add specials if you like. Tell us your favorites when you request a quote, and we'll confirm the lineup with your quote.

How much does it cost?

Live grill is priced by the skewer, from $1,200 for 200 skewers of standards, a full dinner for about 20 guests, up to $3,900 for 1,000. Specials are market price, and we price them in your quote. Drop-off starts at $20 a person. Live-grill extras like starters and condiments are priced per guest. Starting prices are for events in Marin County, and your quote depends on location and custom requests. Need more than 1,000 skewers? We'll put together a custom proposal.

Is there a minimum?

Live grill starts at $1,200 for 200 skewers. That's a full dinner for about 20 guests, so smaller groups get plenty for seconds. For a smaller budget, drop-off starts at $20 a person with a 10-guest minimum.

How many guests can you serve?

Drop-off starts at 10 guests: bento boxes for up to 30, and a buffet we set up for bigger groups. For live grilling, tell us your guest count and we'll plan the grill around it, or suggest drop-off if that works better for a big crowd.

What do you need from me?

For live grilling, a flat outdoor spot for the grill about 8 by 6 feet, at least 10 feet from walls, fences, anything overhead, and anything else combustible, plus access from the car and a sink we can use. For drop-off, easy access for unloading and a table for the food. If your party is outdoors, plan a covered spot in case of weather.

How long will you be at my place?

For a typical evening, we arrive about two hours before your start time to set up and light the binchotan, then grill in rounds for about two and a half hours. We break down and clean up after the last skewer and are usually gone within an hour.

Where in Marin County do you cater?

We're based in San Rafael and travel is included anywhere in Marin County, including Sausalito, Mill Valley, Tiburon, Belvedere, Corte Madera, Larkspur, and West Marin. San Francisco, Sonoma, and the East Bay are quoted per event.

What if there's a fire ban or bad weather?

If a red flag warning or fire ban is in effect on the day of a live event, we cook everything ahead and bring it hot, and we always check with you first. If weather or illness forces a cancellation, we reschedule at no charge.

Do you provide drinks?

No. We don't have a liquor, wine, or beer license, and we don't supply other drinks for events, so plan on serving your own.

How far ahead should I book?

Three to four weeks is ideal, and earlier for weekends and December. We need your final guest count four days before the event, when we shop. Short notice? Ask anyway, and if we're free we'll make it work. We don't book events on Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, or New Year's Day.

How does booking and payment work?

Request a quote with your date, guest count, and any specials you'd like. We reply within one business day with a quote, then email a Square invoice to hold the date. Cancellations 30 or more days out are refunded in full, 14 to 30 days out at 50%, and inside 14 days are non-refundable.

Can you handle dietary restrictions?

Yes. Shishito, tofu dengaku, zucchini, and cherry tomato skewers are vegan, shiitake is vegetarian, and every dish is on our allergen sheet. We cook in a kitchen that handles all major allergens, so tell us about severe allergies when you request a quote.

Anything else? Email hello@marinprovisions.com and we'll reply within one business day. Full terms are on our terms page.
